Old Palapag Church Ruins.

Palapag, Northern Samar

The Jesuits built here in 1605, setting coral rock tablets in a mortar of lime and egg white. What stands now is ruin, with two bells dated 1793 and 1870 in front of it. The building method is the detail that stays with you — coral rock set with lime and egg white, still standing after four centuries. The two bells date from long after the church was built, which tells you how long it remained in use.
