The Hadang Festival 2026 opened at the CACO Theater, with the 20 candidates of Miss Hadang Festival Queen 2026 presenting their festival costumes in the pre-pageant night that followed.

OPENING CEREMONIES AND MISS HADANG PRE-PAGEANT NIGHT

September 1, 2026 | CACO Theater, 6:30 PM

The week began at the CACO Theater. On the evening of September 1, the Opening Ceremonies formally launched the Hadang Festival 2026, the start of eight days of ritual, pageantry, competition, and devotion leading to the city fiesta.

The night carried straight into the Miss Hadang Festival Queen 2026 Pre-Pageant Night at 7:00 PM. Twenty candidates, representing barangays, schools, alumni associations, and youth councils across Calbayog, took the stage in festival costumes built on Hadang themes and local craftsmanship.

The costumes told the festival's story before the week itself could: babaylan and diwata, the rooster and the white oni, the padugo offering, the dalakit tree, the city's waterfalls and coral reefs, and Our Lady of the Nativity, each one an interpretation of what hadang means to Calbayog. The search for Miss Hadang Festival Queen, organized by the City Arts and Culture Office, has been running since 2015.

The candidates would meet again two nights later at the Calbayog City Sports Center for the Grand Coronation Night.

About Hadang Festival

Hadang is an ancient Visayan ritual of making offerings to spirits, for protection, healing, good fortune or a bountiful harvest. It is still performed in Calbayog by local tambalans, and it is the foundation of the city's official festival: known until 2025 as the Sarakiki-Hadang Festival, named Hadang Festival by city ordinance on 1 September 2025, and three times champion at Samar's Tandaya Festival of Festivals.
